- 作品解説: 川のほとりの小屋の窓から湯気が立ち込めており、そのそばで女性が二人洗い物をしている。盥（たらい）から湯気が出ているので、おそらく小屋にある湯を利用しているのだろう。二人のいる場所には階段があり、その登り切ったところの崖に張り出すように家が数軒建っている。干されているのが浴衣や布団で、ここは温泉旅館だと思われる。木々の葉の緑が美しく、少し傾いているところにリズムを感じさせる。川のほとりの小屋の窓から湯気が立ち込めており、そのそばで女性二人が洗い物をしている。盥（たらい）からも湯気が出ているので、小屋にある湯を利用するために下に降りてきたのだろう。近くには階段があり、その登り切ったところの崖に張り出すように家が数軒建っている。干されているのが浴衣や布団であることから、ここは温泉旅館だと思われる。木々の葉の緑が美しく、少し右に傾いているところにリズムを感じさせる。右の脇には滝が描かれるなど、南画を超えた開放感ある理想郷と言えるかもしれない。 今村紫紅は、岡倉天心に認められ横山大観らと日本画の革新性を求めて修行した。琳派やゴーギャンら後期印象派の画家に影響を受けつつ南画の柔らかなタッチや精神性を研究し、独自の画風を確立。大正期には新しい日本画のリーダー的存在になっていたが35歳で惜しくも亡くなった。Description: Two women are washing dishes near the steam coming from the window of a hut by the river. They are probably using the hot water in the hut, as steam is coming out of a washbasin. There are stairs leading up to where the two women are standing, and at the top of the stairs, there are several houses overhanging the cliff. The yukata (Japanese bathrobe) and futon (futon) hanging out to dry suggest that this is a hot spring inn. The green foliage of the trees is beautiful, and the slight leaning of the trees gives a sense of rhythm to the scene. Steam is rising from the window of a hut by the river, and two women are washing dishes near the window. The steam is also coming out of a washbasin, so they must have come downstairs to use the hot water in the hut. There is a staircase nearby, and a few houses overhang the cliff at the top of the staircase. The yukata (Japanese bathrobe) and futon (bedding) hanging out to dry suggest that this is a hot spring inn. The green foliage of the trees is beautiful, and the slight leaning to the right gives the viewer a sense of rhythm. With a waterfall on the right side of the painting, it may be said to be an open-air utopia that transcends Nanga. Shiho Imamura was recognized by Tenshin Okakura and trained with Taikan Yokoyama and others in the pursuit of innovation in Japanese painting. Influenced by the Rimpa school, Gauguin, and other late Impressionist painters, he studied the soft touch and spirituality of Nanga and established his own style of painting. By the Taisho era (1912-1926), he had become a leader in the new style of Japanese painting, but sadly passed away at the age of 35.
