- 1984年第16回日展（改組日展）への出品作(長崎県美術館蔵）の同型作品。富永が家族をテーマとした時期の作であり、椅子が細部の装飾に至るまで丁寧かつリアルに作られている点に特徴がある。以下、1984年自筆原稿からの引用（『生誕100年記念 富永直樹』展図録、長崎県美術館発行、2013年）「この夏長崎に行った時、私がよく良くマジョロカという洋骨董屋で、主人がロンドンで見つけて買ってきたという100年もたっている黒い椅子を見た時、これはいけるぞと思った。立派な品物ではないが、瀟洒な手作りのような所があって洒落ている。（中略）宅の大将とはハッピというペルシャ猫のことである。孫のオモチャに銀座の猫屋で買ってやったグレーの猫であるが、最近は宅の家に居続けて孫の方には帰らない。（中略）椅子が着いたので大将を座らせてみた。大将の方も気に入ったとみえてだまって座っている。そのうちおなかをまるだしにしていびきをかいて寝てしまった。仕事をしながらあれは大将の椅子だなあと思い、今年の日展には親分を座らせて題名を「大将の椅子」として出品することにした。」This is the same type of work that was exhibited at the 16th Nitten (reorganized Nitten) in 1984 (owned by Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art). It was created during the period when Tominaga was focusing on the theme of family, and is characterized by the careful and realistic way in which the chairs are made, down to the detailed decoration. The following is a quotation from his own handwritten manuscript from 1984 ("Naoki Tominaga: 100th Anniversary of His Birth" exhibition catalog, published by Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art, 2013). When I went to Nagasaki this summer, I saw a 100-year-old black chair that my husband had found in London and bought at a Western antique shop called Majoloka, which I often visit. It was not a magnificent piece, but it had a stylish, handmade look to it. (omission) The owner of the house is a Persian cat named Happy. He is a gray cat that I bought for my grandson as a toy at a cat shop in Ginza, but recently he has been staying at my house and not returning to my grandson. (omission) When a chair arrived, I let the general sit on it. The cat seemed to like it, too, and sat quietly. Eventually, he fell asleep with his stomach exposed and snoring. As I was working, I thought to myself, "That's the boss's chair," and decided to exhibit it at this year's Nitten with the title of "The boss's chair.
