- 『平治物語』によると、清盛を討とうとして難波経房（つねふさ）に捕えられた義朝の長男・悪源太義平（あくげんたよしひら）は、六条河原で経房に斬首される時に、雷神になって怨みを晴らすと誓いました。清盛が、難波経房らを連れて布引の滝を見物中に、雷が鳴り、経房に落ちたと伝えます。また『源平盛衰記』には、平重盛の家来の難波六郎経俊が、重盛に従って布引の滝を見物した際、滝の底にもぐって浮かび上がったところに雷が落ち、経俊は死んでしまったと伝えます。本図は、義平が怨霊となって経房に復讐する場面です。<br/><br/>【中世の神戸】【江戸の絵画】According to the Heiji Monogatari, Yoshitomo's eldest son, Yoshihira Akugenta, who was captured by Tsunefusa Namba in an attempt to avenge Kiyomori's death, vowed to become a god of thunder to avenge his grudge when he was beheaded by Tsunefusa at Rokujogawara. It is said that while Kiyomori was visiting Nunobiki Falls with Namba Kyobo and others, a thunderbolt struck and fell on Kyobo. According to "Genpei Seikatsuki," when Taira Shigemori's retainer Namba Rokuro Noritoshi followed Shigemori to Nunobiki Falls, lightning struck him as he floated to the bottom of the waterfall, killing him.
