- 現在の神戸市中央区から須磨区にかけて繰り広げられた源氏と平氏の激戦一の谷の合戦を、江戸時代後期に活躍した名手・国貞が描いた絵画です。<br/><BR/>５枚続きの横長の画面に、生田の森から一の谷までひろがる合戦の全体像が描かれいます。<br/><BR/>梶原景時の「二度之懸」を中央に、向かって右の屋敷には平家の大手の大将軍で、武略に長じた平知盛の出陣の様子が描かれています。画面奥では、坂落としに始まり、平忠度の最期、熊谷直実と平敦盛など、一の谷の合戦の有名なエピソードが散りばめられています。<BR/>『平家物語』で人口に膾炙した源平合戦の古地としてのイメージは、江戸時代に多作されたこれらの錦絵によってさらに補強されていきました。<br/><br/>【中世の神戸】【江戸の絵画】This painting by Kunisada, a master artist active in the late Edo period, depicts the fierce battle of Ichinotani between the Minamoto and Taira clans that took place between present-day Chuo and Suma wards of Kobe City. <BR/><BR/>The five horizontal panels depict the entire scene of the battle, stretching from the Ikuta Forest to Ichinotani Valley. <BR/><BR/>Kajiwara no Kageki's "Nidonokake" is depicted in the center of the painting, and on the right side is a depiction of Heike general Taira no Tomomori, a skilled military strategist, going into battle. In the back of the screen, famous episodes from the Battle of Ichinotani are interspersed, beginning with the dropping of the hill, the final days of Taira Tadatoshi, Kumagaya Naozane and Taira Atsumori, and other famous episodes from the Battle of Ichinotani. <BR/>The image of Ichinotani as the ancient site of the Genpei War, popularized by "The Tale of the Heike", was further reinforced by the prolific production of these nishikie during the Edo period. <BR/><BR/>[Kobe in the Middle Ages] [Edo period paintings
