- 江戸時代後期にヨーロッパから輸入された更紗を用いて縫合された男性用の下着。18世紀末には、オランダ、フランス、イギリス、ロシアなどの更紗も日本へ輸入されていたことが指摘されている。<br/><BR/>本作は13種類の生地を用いて、濃い緑地に花卉文（かきもん）を施した生地を基調とし、亀甲枠のなかに様々な生地でかたどった六稜星（ろくりょうせい）を配した意匠となっている。本作に用いられている裂は、江戸時代に輸入されていた裂の見本帳に類品を見出せる。例えば、六稜星の一部となっている黄色地に花卉文の裂は「嘉永七年寅紅毛方品代持渡反物切本帳」、白地に赤や青の花卉文を配する裂は「安政三年辰穐秋渡り反物類切手本帳」に類似した意匠の裂を見出すことができる（いずれも池長孟コレクション）。<BR/>ちなみに、注文主は神戸で明治から大正期にアンティークの店を営んでいた人物とされる。<br/><br/>【近世・近代の漆工・陶磁器・染織】Men's underwear sewn with chintz imported from Europe in the late Edo period (1603-1868); it is noted that chintz from the Netherlands, France, England, and Russia was also imported to Japan at the end of the 18th century. <BR/><BR/>This work is made of thirteen different fabrics, based on a dark green ground with a floral design, and has a design of a six-pointed star in the shape of various fabrics within a tortoiseshell frame. The rips used in this work can be found in sample books of imported rips from the Edo period (1603-1868). For example, the yellow ground with floral design that is part of the six ridges star can be found in "Kaei 7-nen Tora Koho Hindai Mochidai Hanmono Kirimoto Honcho," and the white ground with red and blue floral design can be found in "Ansei 3-nen Tatsu Aki-Aki Autumn Crossed Antiques Stamp Book" (both in the Ikenaga Meng Collection). <BR/><BR/>The owner of the order is said to have been a person who ran an antique store in Kobe during the Meiji and Taisho periods. <BR/><BR/>[Lacquer works, ceramics, and dyed textiles of the modern and early modern periods
