- 亜欧堂田善は松平定信に才能を見出されて、谷文晁の許で絵 の修業をしたと伝えられています。しかし実際には、伝統を重んじる職業絵師というよりは、自分の眼に忠実な画家とし ての感覚が勝っていたと考えられます。彼が描いた多くの江戸風景は、正確な景観描写と同時に、従来の画家たちの同種の作品には見られない新鮮な感覚に満ちているためです。例えば、その主題選びと構図は、これまで絵として取り上げられることのなかった場所の景観にも積極的に挑んでいますが、これには同時代の葛飾北斎の風景版画からの感化も考えられます。<BR/>20世紀前半に築地に移転するまでは、江戸（東京）の魚市場は日本橋にありました。現在では高速道路が上空をふさぎ、往時の面影は偲びにくいのですが、この銅版画は約200年前の喧騒ぶりを雄弁に語ってくれます。葉書大にも満たない小さな画面にもかかわらず、ここに集まったひとりひとりのしぐさをはっきりと識別できます。田善の卓越した銅版技術が、リアリティあふれる群衆表現を可能としました。<br/><br/>【江戸の絵画】It is said that Aoudo Tazen was discovered by Matsudaira Sadanobu and trained as a painter under Tani Buncho. In reality, however, he was more of a painter true to his own eye than a professional painter who respected tradition. This is because many of his Edo landscapes, while accurately depicting the landscape, are filled with a fresh sensibility that cannot be found in similar works by conventional painters. For example, in his choice of subject matter and composition, he actively challenged the landscape of places that had never before been depicted in paintings, and this may have been inspired by the landscape prints of his contemporary Katsushika Hokusai. <BR/>The Edo (Tokyo) fish market was located in Nihonbashi until it was moved to Tsukiji in the first half of the 20th century. Today, with the expressway blocking the sky above, it is difficult to recall the old days, but this copperplate engraving eloquently describes the bustle of the market some 200 years ago. Despite the small size of the print (less than the size of a postcard), the gestures of the people gathered here are clearly identifiable. The outstanding copperplate engraving technique of Denzen made it possible to create a realistic representation of a crowd. <br/><br/>[Edo Paintings
