- 本書はフランスの“本の芸術家”である挿絵画家たちについて紹介するシリーズ全24巻。1巻につき一人の作家を紹介する形式で、各巻の表紙は同じデザインながら使用する用紙の色彩を変えてバリエーションが作られている。どの巻も同一の構成で、作品に関する評論、作家の序文、同時代の人または作家自身による肖像画、批評に続いて、画家の代表的なイラストの図版と書誌情報が掲載される。“本の芸術家”のみを特集して紹介する作品集はこれまであまり例がなく、シリーズの刊行は新しい試みであった。This 24-volume series on French "Artists of the Book" illustrators introduces one artist per volume, with each volume using the same cover design but using different colors of paper to create variations. Each volume is organized identically, with a review of the work, a preface by the artist, a portrait of the artist by a contemporary or the artist himself, and a review, followed by an illustration of a representative illustration by the artist and bibliographic information. The publication of the series was a new venture, as there have been few collections devoted exclusively to "artists of the book.
