- 作品解説: ホテルからの眺めであろうか。４階あたりから街を見下ろす構図で描かれているようだ。中央右手の白い塊はオベリスクのようで、左右の建物を分断している。薄汚れた建物に薄汚れた空。村上は決して観光地ローマを美化せず街の深層を掘り起こしてむき出しにする。ただし、まったくこの街を毛嫌いしているわけではなく、その汚れた具合を心地よく思っている節もある。Description: This painting seems to be a view from a hotel, looking down on the city from the fourth floor. The white mass in the center right looks like an obelisk, dividing the buildings on either side. Dirty buildings and a dirty sky. Murakami never glorifies Rome as a tourist destination, but digs up and lays bare the depths of the city. However, he does not dislike the city at all, but is comfortable with its dirtiness.
