- 「1985年11月21日」、この作品は生まれた。モノクロームで塗り込められた画面に、白く浮かび上がる日付。これは同日の新聞の切り抜きを貼った箱に納められており、その紙面にはレーガン米大統領、ゴルバチョフ・ソ連書記長という80年代を代表する二人の会談の模様が伝えられている。1966年以来今日に至るまで、作家は断続的にこの「日付絵画」（"Today" シリーズ）を制作し続けてきた。一つの作品はその日の内に完成されるといい、その意味で彼の生きる証であり、無限に続く〈日付〉なのである。1950年代の《浴室シリーズ》で見せた個性の強さはあくまでも隠され、新聞やタイプの文字という究極の無機的な、没個性的なものを提示することでかえって強烈なオリジナリティーを獲得している。1965年にニューヨークを拠点として河原は以後、コンセプチュアル・アートの代表的な作家として時間と非時間の表現に取り組んでおり、国際的評価が高い。（Y.H.）On November 21, 1985, this work was born.
