- 作品解説: 画面の約四分の三を大きく空が占め、海を上から見下ろす俯瞰構図によって壮大な景色に仕上げている。基本的には雲の流れも島の配置も水平方向に分布してるが、そこへ帆船がと右手の島の一部が斜めに方向性を持たせて描かれることにより、わずかな変化と遠近法的な奥行きを生み出している。帝国美術院の再改組に反対し、東京美術学校校長を辞任した翌年の作品であるが、和田の当時の心境は如何なものであったのだろうか。Description: The sky occupies about three-quarters of the painting, and the bird's-eye view of the sea from above creates a magnificent scene. The clouds and islands are basically distributed horizontally, but a sailing ship and part of the island on the right side of the painting are painted in a diagonal direction, creating a slight change in perspective and depth. This work was painted the year after Wada resigned as principal of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in opposition to the reorganization of the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts.
