- 安田雷洲（生没年不詳）は、文化から安政にかけての幕末期に活躍した洋風画家です。その作品には幾つかの銅版風景画シリーズがあり､中でもこの「江戸近国風景｣は最も完成度の高いものです。湧雲がまばゆく輝く空の下、重厚に描かれた山裾や河川などが複雑に重なり合い、小画面の作品とは思えぬ雄大な眺めが展開されます。その所々に人々の生活や建物が微小ながらも極めて精緻に描写されており、この作品のリアリティーを更に確固としたものにしています。このような充実した作風は従来の江漢や田善の風景画にはみられず、ここに日本の風景を描く洋風表現が全く新たな段階に入ったことを物語ります。<br/><br/>【江戸の絵画】Yasuda Raishu (date of birth and death unknown) was a Western-style painter active during the late Edo period (Bunka to Ansei periods). His works include several series of copperplate landscapes, of which this "Edo Kinkoku-kei" is the most complete. Under a dazzling sky shimmering with clouds, heavily painted mountains and rivers intricately overlap each other, creating a magnificent view that is hard to believe that it is a small painting. The small but highly detailed depictions of people's lives and buildings in various places further solidify the reality of this work. Such a rich style is not found in the traditional landscape paintings of Jiang Han and Denzen, and here we can see that Western-style representation of the Japanese landscape has entered a whole new phase. <br/><br/>[Edo Paintings
