- 作品解説: 有名な天安門の石獅子が描かれている。間部時雄は 1920 年暮れから 1925 年 1 月までヨーロッパ各地を訪問したが、その中には石彫を描いたものが散見され、モチーフとして建物と石彫との組み合わせを好んでいたようだ。中国大陸には合計 24 回訪れ、この作品が描かれた翌年には雲崗石窟を調査しスケッチするなど、古美術にも関心の深かった間部であるからこそ、この石彫のような細部の描写が行われたのであろうことは容易に想像できる。Description: This work depicts the famous stone lions of Tiananmen Square. Tokio Mabe visited various places in Europe from the end of 1920 to January 1925, and among his paintings of stone carvings, we can see a number of them, suggesting that he preferred the combination of buildings and stone carvings as a motif. It is easy to imagine that Mabu, who visited mainland China a total of 24 times and investigated and sketched the Yungang Grottoes the year after this work was painted, was deeply interested in antiquities, which is why he depicted details like these stone carvings.
