- 作品解説: 作品裏面の木枠に、ポントワーズで写生したとの記述があることから、中央やや左に描かれているのは、セルジーのサン＝クリストフ教会 （Église Saint-Christophe） で、前に流れているのはオワーズ川。近くにはピサロやゴッホゆかりの地があり、セザンヌやゴッホの作品を多く持つ医師ガシェの息子の家もある。田中保は写生以外にも目的があって、パリ北西のこの地を訪れたのかもしれない。画面が暗めで遠くの山の端の色彩の処理をはじめ非常に繊細である。ホイッスラーなどに傾倒し、かつクールベのような処理がみられるため、制作時期としては 1920 年にパリに渡ってそれほど年数が経っていない頃であると思われる。Description: The wood frame on the back of the work states that it was painted in Pontoise. The church of Église Saint-Christophe in Sergy is depicted slightly left of center, and the Oise River flows in front of it. Nearby are places associated with Pissarro and Van Gogh, as well as the home of the son of Gachet, a doctor who has many works by Cézanne and Van Gogh. Tamotsu Tanaka may have visited this area northwest of Paris for a purpose other than sketching. The picture is dark and very delicate, including the color treatment of the edge of the mountains in the distance. The artist's inclination toward the work of Heusler and other artists, as well as the Courbet-like treatment, suggests that he moved to Paris in 1920, not too long after the painting was created.
