- 作品解説: 西伊豆堂ヶ島を写生した本作は、技術的な工夫が様々になされている。そのひとつが画面の光沢で、全体ではないが、滑らかな肌合いで表現したい箇所には乾性油を絵具に追加して描いているようだ。さらに、岩礁や道路のガード部分などに効果的に黒い線を引き、海の色も手前から遠方にかけて繊細に色分けされているところも見どころである。千葉県立美術館所蔵の 《北京・北海の春 ( 一）》 （1938年） や、《不忍池の初夏》 （1929 年） などと同様に、風景の中に人物を配して、より親しみのある風景画に仕立てている。Description: This work, which depicts Dogashima Island in Nishi-Izu, was created using a variety of technical innovations. One of them is the glossy surface of the painting. Although not the entire surface, the artist seems to have added dry oil to the paint in areas where he wanted to express a smooth texture. Another highlight is the effective use of black lines on the reefs and road guards, and the subtle coloring of the sea from the foreground to the distance. As in "Beihai Spring in Beijing" (1938) and "Early Summer at Shinobazuno Pond" (1929), both in the collection of the Chiba Prefectural Museum of Art, the artist has placed human figures within the landscape to create a more familiar landscape painting.
