- 作品解説: 日本ペンクラブの副会長として、 1936 年に有島は会長の島崎藤村とともにブエノスアイレスの大会に出席している。ハワイを訪れた目的は、インドのペンクラブ代表で東洋美術史家でもあったカリダス・ナーグと 1936 年に知り合いとなり、ナーグが尽力して 1936 年 1 月に設立したハワイ大学の The Oriental Institute の視察のためであった可能性はある。本作を制作した 1938 年は 2 年後に予定されていた東京国際ペン大会が日本の孤立化により 11 月に中止が決定された。Description: As vice president of the Japan Pen Club, Arishima attended the 1936 convention in Buenos Aires with its president, Toson Shimazaki. It is possible that the purpose of his visit to Hawaii was to inspect The Oriental Institute at the University of Hawaii, which he established in January 1936 through the efforts of Kalidas Nag, a representative of the Indian Pen Club and an oriental art historian, with whom he became acquainted in 1936. In 1938, the year this film was produced, the Tokyo International PEN Convention, which was scheduled two years later, was cancelled in November due to Japan's isolation.
