Website revamped for better usability and navigation

We have renewed our website.
Along with a comprehensive update to the website interface and design, we have expanded database coverage and updated information as follows:

Expansion of SHŪZŌ: Japanese Museum Collections Search
The SHŪZŌ: Japanese Museum Collections Search database compiles artworks held in the collections of museums and similar institutions across Japan. Previously, the scope was limited to modern and contemporary Japanese artworks by artists listed in the Dictionary of Artists in Japan (DAJ), with data refined incrementally. Thanks to the cooperation of participating museums, the coverage has now been expanded to include Japanese and international artworks created after 1801 housed in museums across Japan.

The following information is available as of December 10, 2024:
Collections: 403,520 (an increase of approximately 116,000 items)
Collections with images: 66,750 (an increase of approximately 12,400 items)
Museums: 200 (an increase of 2 institutions)

Updates and Additions to the Dictionary of Artists in Japan (DAJ)
The Dictionary of Artists in Japan (DAJ) has been updated with new records for artists and groups.
Total entries: 5,128 (an increase of 770 entries)

Updates and Additions to Japanese Galleries and Art Spaces
The Database of Japanese Galleries and Art Spaces has been updated with additional records of galleries and art spaces, using “Ketteiban: Tokyo āto gaido.” Tokyo: Bijutsu Shuppan Sha, 2013 as a new reference source.
Total entries: 2,593 (an increase of 184 entries)

Updates to the Research Guides

The Research Guides page, which compiles useful websites and databases for researching modern and contemporary Japanese art, now includes two new sections:
Research on Bibliographies
Research on Museums and Galleries

Enhancements to the Reading lists
The Reading lists page, which introduces key publications on modern and contemporary Japanese art, has been consolidated into a single page for improved usability and accessibility.

We will continue to update and expand the database to ensure its reliability as a trusted resource.
