- 1855年（安政2)に起きた安政江戸地震で被災した江戸市民に対し、幕府は避難場所として御救小屋を設けて救恤を行った。画家菊池容斎が、明治になってその時の様子を回顧して描いている。御救小屋に集まり仮の生活を営む避難民の姿が描かれ、画面左には震災の最中に新しい生命が誕生するお産の様子が見える。In 1855, the Edo Shogunate provided a relief shelter for the citizens of Edo who suffered from the Ansei-Edo Earthquake. The painter Kikuchi Yosai painted a retrospective of the situation in the Meiji era. The evacuees are depicted gathering in the relief hut and living a temporary life, and on the left side of the painting, a new life is being born in the midst of the earthquake and tsunami.
