This kyusu is molded with a seam in the middle of the body. The relief of a Western woman on the side of the bowl is probably based on a copperplate engraving. The oval seal inscription "Mokume" on the underside of the lid suggests that it was made by Aoki Mokume (1767-1833), a potter in Kyoto.

Kibe studied under Okuda Yeikawa (1753-1811), who created porcelain in Kyoto, and produced tea utensils copied from Chinese and Dutch ceramics. The storage box still bears the inscription "Made by Mokume / Alan Snake Shaped Teapot".

[Lacquer works, ceramics, and dyeing and weaving in modern and early modern times
