- 作品解説: 矮鶏（ちゃぼ）はインドシナが原産地で、江戸時代初期に日本に入って改良された鶏の小型品種の総称で、尾羽が直立し、脚が短い。春を象徴する菜の花を背景に、つがいで矮鶏が描かれていることから、夫婦円満や永遠の春を願う画となっている。貫禄のある雄鶏の姿や穏やかに絡まり合う菜の花の構図がそうした吉祥図を盛り立てている。Description: Chabo is a generic name for a small breed of chicken that originated in Indochina and was improved in Japan in the early Edo period (1603-1868), with upright tail feathers and short legs. The painting depicts a mating pair of dwarf chickens against a background of rape blossoms, which symbolize spring, and is a wish for conjugal bliss and eternal spring. The dignified appearance of the rooster and the gentle intertwining of the rape blossoms add to the auspiciousness of the composition.
