- 作品解説: 三宅は1901年の11月から1902年の8月にかけて2回目の渡欧をした。マルセイユまで船で約40日を要したことを考えると、1902年と年記にあるので寄港先であるセイロン島を旅の帰りに写生したものだと思われる。絹地に描いているからか、絵具が弾いて定着が悪いが、三宅はそれをむしろ味わいがあるとして楽しんでいるようである。風景に溶け込むように人物を描いているところも三宅らしい。Description: Miyake made his second trip to Europe between November 1901 and August 1902. Considering that it took about 40 days to reach Marseille by ship, Miyake probably sketched this work on his way back from his trip to Ceylon Island, where he made a port of call, since the year 1902 is written in the artist's diary. Perhaps because the painting was done on silk, the paint bounced off the silk and did not adhere well, but Miyake seems to have enjoyed the taste of it. Miyake also seems to have enjoyed the way the figures blend in with the landscape.
