Description: The Senju Bridge over the Sumida River in downtown Tokyo. The work vividly depicts the town in the Taisho period (1912-1926), with the people passing by on the bridge and the smoke from the chimneys of factories and other buildings, which can be seen over the Ashi vegetation in the foreground. In particular, the intricate framework of the bridge's logs is carefully depicted, while the electric wires extending from the utility poles are omitted, creating a soft brushstroke and a lyrical quality. Oda began his career in creative printmaking when he joined "Hosun," a publication led by Ishii Kashitei.
