- 作品解説: 油彩、水彩、版画、本の装幀など多方面にわたり制作した柏亭は、淡彩による水墨画も試みていた。本作は、柏亭35歳頃の比較的初期のもので、控え目ながらも艶（あで）やかな色彩が使われている。右幅の朝顔は、夏に写生したとあり、少し期間をおいて秋口に左幅を描いたのか、あるいは左幅は想像で描いてみせたのか。画面構成は装飾性が意識されており、琳派を意識したか、あるいは琳派の影響を受けたアール・ヌーヴォーが念頭にあったのか、そのあたりも興味深い。Description: Kashiwatei worked in many fields, including oil painting, watercolor, printmaking, and book binding, and he also experimented with ink painting in light colors. This relatively early work, produced around the age of 35, uses subdued yet glamorous colors. The morning glory on the right is said to have been sketched in the summer, and it is possible that he painted the left in early autumn after a short interval, or that he painted the left in his imagination. The composition of the painting is decorative, and it is interesting to see whether the artist was aware of the Rimpa school, or whether he had Art Nouveau in mind, which was influenced by the Rimpa school.
