- 作品解説: 三枚重ね合わせた洋紙の上に描かれた珍しい作品。画面右側に横向きの花瓶の模様がうっすらと見えている。最初は横構図で描いていたが、それらを消して縦構図の静物画にしたことがわかる。上方わずかに光沢があるが、画面全体は艶がほとんどない。和田は油絵具の筆触とマチエールを生かしつつ、日本画のような艶消し画面の効果を得るためにあえて紙に描いたのであろう。赤絵の花瓶に黄色の菊、そして青の背景と、色彩の分布にもこだわりがうかがえる。Description: Unusual work painted on three sheets of layered paper. The pattern of a horizontal vase is faintly visible on the right side of the painting. It is evident that the artist initially painted a horizontal composition, but then eliminated them to create a vertically composed still-life. There is a slight sheen on the upper part of the painting, but the entire picture is almost glossless. It is likely that Wada dared to paint on paper in order to achieve the effect of a matte screen like Japanese-style painting, while taking advantage of the texture and matiere of oil paint. The red-painted vase, yellow chrysanthemums, and blue background also show Wada's attention to color distribution.
