- 作品解説: 蘭、竹、菊、梅は四君子と呼ばれ、4種の植物の特長がまさに君子の特性と似ていることから、文人画においての代表的な素材となった。蘭はほのかな香りと気品を備え、竹は寒い冬にも葉を落とさず青々としている上、曲がらずまっすぐな性質を持っており、翠雲は特にこの2種を何度か取り上げている。蘭の花や笹の葉には効果的なたらしこみの技法によりグラデーションが生まれている。Description: Orchids, bamboo, chrysanthemums, and plums are known as the "four sovereigns," and because the characteristics of these four plants are similar to those of the sovereign, they have become representative materials in literati paintings. The orchid has a subtle fragrance and elegance, while the bamboo remains lush and green without losing its leaves even in cold winters and has the property of being straight without bending, and Suiun especially featured these two species in his paintings several times. The orchid flowers and bamboo leaves are gradated by an effective technique called "Tarashikomi".
