The deck, middle shelf, and base are circular, and four rectangular vertical boards penetrate them. The main wood is birch cherry, and the deck is covered with ground wood. The deck is covered with ground wood. It is painted with a dyed lacquer finish. The Asakamiya Residence has several pieces of furniture that were designed and produced for each room at the time of its completion. According to the "Documents Related to the Construction of the New Asakamiya Residence," this piece was originally designed for the living room of Wakamiya by Mizutani Masao, an engineer in the Engineering Division of the Imperial Household Ministry's Shokuryo (Interior Design Department). However, photographs taken after its completion show that it was placed in the bedroom of Wakamiya, and it is thought that it was moved to a different room.
