The initials "N.A." on the work indicate that it was painted after her marriage to Prince Asakamiya. Princess Makiko had been familiar with painting since she was a child, and after she went to Europe to care for King Hatohiko, who had an accident while in France, she received instruction in watercolor painting from the sculptor Blanchot, as indicated in the "Receipt Certificate," a record of her expenditures during her stay in Europe. Since the signature of this work is similar to that of "Anemone," which is dated 1924, during his stay in Europe, it is assumed that this work was painted at the same time.
