From the year "1896" and the signature "N.F.", it is judged to have been painted during the reign of Princess Makiko (Princess Tominomiya), before her marriage to Prince Asakamiya. It is known that the four princesses of the Meiji Emperor, including Princess Makiko, received painting instruction from Atomi Tamae, a Japanese-style painter who served as the Imperial Princess's personal assistant.
