- 1889年（明治22）年に写真師鈴木真一及び丸木利陽によって撮影された昭憲皇太后の御真影を基に描かれた油彩画。「G.Molinari Roma 1897」とあり、後年にローマで制作されたものと考えられる。大礼服姿の皇后像で、ダイヤモンドのティアラと、三連のダイヤモンド・リヴィエール（ネックレス）を身につけた、豪華な装いとなっている。ティアラを含む装身具はベルリンのレオンハード＆フィーゲル製と考えられ、は明治5年にフランスから届けられたものであり、19世紀後半に典型的なデザインとなっている。同作者による《明治天皇肖像》と共に、制作にかかる経緯等は不明である。This oil painting is based on a portrait of Empress Dowager Shoken taken by photographers Shinichi Suzuki and Riyo Maruki in 1889 (22nd year of Meiji). The inscription "G.Molinari Roma 1897" suggests that it was painted in Rome in a later year. The Empress is dressed in a grand ceremonial dress, and is sumptuously attired, wearing a diamond tiara and a three-strand diamond rivière (necklace). The tiara and other jewelry are thought to have been made by Leonhard & Fiegel of Berlin, and were delivered from France in 1872, a design typical of the late 19th century. Together with "Portrait of Emperor Meiji" by the same artist, the circumstances surrounding the production of this work are unknown.
