- 学生時代、生活費を得るため巨大な屋外広告看板を描いていたローゼンクイストは、商業主義的な看板絵の技法によって、現代消費文明を象徴する日常的事物を描き、ポップアートの代表的作家の一人としてデビューした。彼は様々な日常的イメージの断片を、看板を彷彿とさせる大画面の中に並列させる。大画面のため、具象のイメージは一見抽象画のように見える。観者はそのイメージを繋ぎあわせて連想していく。rnカーレーサー、ロレンツォ・バンディーニは、1967年のデイトナ24時間耐久レースでフェラーリ・チームに優勝をもたらした。その時、ナンバー23のフェラーリと優勝を争ったのは、カー・ナンバー1の黄色いフォードであった。その3か月後、レース中の事故でバンディーニはこの世を去った。彼のファンであったローゼンクイストは、惜しくも華々しく散っていった彼の、死の直前の栄光と雄姿を回想し、追悼の意を込めてこれを描いた。（A.T.）As a student, Rosenquist painted huge outdoor billboards to earn a living. Using the commercialist technique of billboard painting, he depicted everyday objects that symbolize modern consumer civilization, making his debut as one of the leading Pop Art artists. He juxtaposes fragments of various everyday images in large paintings reminiscent of billboards. Because of the large scale, the figurative images appear at first glance to be abstract. The viewer is invited to connect and associate the images. rnCar racer Lorenzo Bandini won the 1967 Daytona 24-hour endurance race for the Ferrari team. At that time, the yellow Ford with car number 1 was competing for the victory with the number 23 Ferrari. Three months later, Bandini died in a racing accident. Rosenquist, who was a fan of Bandini's, painted this as a tribute to him, recalling his glory and heroism at the moment of his death. (A.T.)
