- 和田岬・湊川砲台（台場）は、文久3年（1863）に西宮・今津砲台とともに、幕末の大坂湾防備策の一つとして和田岬と湊川崎に築造された洋式砲台である。砲台の築造は、「御台場築立御用掛」に任じられた老中格小笠原長行を筆頭に、勘定奉行・大坂町奉行・目付とその配下によって進められ、灘の酒造家本嘉納の分家で廻船部門を担当した嘉納次郎作が差配方として請け負った。これらの資料からは、砲台の構造や資材とその規格、費用だけでなく、資材の調達先や設計変更等に関する御用掛の意思決定過程まで知ることができる。この時幕府によって築造された4基の台場のうち、和田岬と西宮の台場が現存し、国の史跡に指定されている。<br/><br/>【開国・開港】The Wadamisaki/Minatogawa Battery (Daiba) was a Western-style battery built in 1863, along with the Nishinomiya and Imazu batteries, in Wadamisaki and Minatogawa as part of the defensive measures for Osaka Bay at the end of the Edo period. The construction of the gun emplacements was headed by Nagayuki Ogasawara, a senior vice-minister appointed to the post of "Odaiba Chutsukuri Goyokake," and was carried out by the magistrate for accounts, the magistrate for Osaka Town, the chief steward and his subordinates, with Jiro Kano, a branch of the Nada sake brewer Hon Kano in charge of the shipping department, serving as the subcontractor. From these documents, we can learn not only the structure, materials, standards, and cost of the turret, but also the decision-making process of the Imperial Household regarding the procurement of materials and design changes. Of the four platforms built by the Shogunate at this time, those at Wadamisaki and Nishinomiya are still in existence and are designated as national historic sites. <br/><br/>[Opening of Japan and Ports
