- 生人形（いきにんぎょう）とは、西洋の蝋人形に似て、まるで生きた人のように再現した作り物の等身大人形のことです。日本では張子（はりこ）細工で造形しました。本図は、熊本の細工人・松本喜三郎が、浅草奥山で興行した生人形を国芳が描いたものです。右上の内題を囲むのは、竹田亀吉が作った大象です。右に長崎・丸山遊女の身支度の人形を描き、中央、左に「手長足長（てながあしなが）」という空想的な異国人物人形を描いています。異国人物の陰影はとくに強調され、浮世絵の伝統に準じた遊女との表現の違いが注目されます。<br/><br/>【江戸の絵画】Ikinigyo are life-size dolls, similar to Western wax dolls, that are made to look like a living person. In Japan, they were made in hariko (papier-mâché) craftsmanship. In this painting, Kuniyoshi depicts a live doll performed in Asakusa Okuyama by Kisaburo Matsumoto, a craftsman from Kumamoto, Japan. Surrounding the inner title in the upper right is a large elephant made by Kamekichi Takeda. On the right is a doll of a Nagasaki Maruyama prostitute getting ready, and on the center and left are fanciful exotic figures called "Tenaga Ashinaga" (long-armed and long-legged). The shading of the exotic figures is particularly emphasized, and the difference in expression from that of the prostitutes, which follows the tradition of ukiyoe, is noteworthy. <br/><br/>[Edo Paintings
