- 大正中期に描かれた、栖鳳と初代中村鴈治郎(がんじろう)(1860―1935)一派の寄せ書きである。藺(いぐさ)は雁治郎、金魚は中村福助、蜻蛉(とんぼ)は中村魁車、浮草は嵐真(六代目嵐吉三郎)、そしてアメンボは栖鳳が、それぞれ筆を執っている。<BR/>栖鳳と雁治郎は気のおけない付き合いをしており、たびたび遊芸に興じている。栖鳳が歌舞伎役者に扮したときは、雁治郎一派の全面協力でかつら、衣裳、顔のつくりから演技指導まで行われ、その豪勢な様子が新聞紙上をにぎわすほどであった。また顔見世興行のたびにおこなわれた栖鳳・鴈治郎両派の合同大宴会では、栖鳳の画室でそれぞれの出し物の余興をおこない、それらが終わると、投扇興や、風船をうちわであおいで鳥居をくぐらせるなど、いろいろな遊びをしたという。この集まりは年々賑わいを増し、やがて窓から外へ桟敷まで作っても入りきれないほどの人出となったため、やむなくやめてしまった。<BR/>1903年（明治36）に催された宴席を撮影した写真には、栖軍と雁軍にわかれた両者が宴会遊びに興じる姿が見られる。場内には「競技中は座席を立去るべからず」「栖軍競技に優勝し商品受領の場合、若(も)し雁軍の代表者謝罪的余興演上の上ならば、再び競技賞品を戻す事を得」といった規則が貼り出され、余興といえども真剣に打ち込むふたりの姿がかいま見られておもしろい。<BR/>こうした宴の後には、しばしば絵の合作もなされたという。おそらく本作も、共に過ごしたひと時の余韻の中で描かれたのではなかろうか。<BR/>This is a collection of paintings by Seiho and Nakamura T.Karino (1860-1935) painted in the middle of the Taisho period. The rushes are by Ganjiro, the goldfish by Nakamura Fukusuke, the dragonflies by Nakamura Kaisya, the floating plants by Arashi Makoto (Arashi Kichisaburo VI), and the water strider by Seiho. <BR/>Suho and Ganjiro have a casual relationship and often engage in amusement. When Seiho dressed up as a Kabuki actor, Ganjiro's group cooperated fully, providing everything from wigs, costumes, and facial construction to acting instruction, and their extravagance even made the headlines. After the entertainment was over, they played various games, such as fan-fighting and making people pass through a torii gate by blowing up balloons with a fan. These gatherings became more and more crowded year by year, and eventually the crowd was so large that even if they had built a plank outside the window, it would not have been able to accommodate all of the people, so they had no choice but to stop. <BR/>A photograph taken at a banquet held in 1903 shows both the Seigun and the Goose Army enjoying themselves at a party. The rules were posted in the hall: "Do not leave your seat during the competition," and "If the representative of the Wild Goose Army wins the competition and receives the prize, he may return the prize again if he has performed the entertainment with an apology. <BR/>It is said that after such banquets, the two often collaborated on paintings. This work was probably painted in the afterglow of the time they spent together. <BR/>
