- 本作は2022年秋に当館で開催された「旅と想像／創造」展に出品された映像作品。旧朝香宮邸を撮影し、その実写映像に小さな模型の飛行機が飛び交う姿をコラージュして編集した幻想的な作品である。小型飛行機に交じって、その中には当館所蔵のボンボニエールのプロペラ機も登場している。朝香宮邸の室内を、幾つもの小型飛行機が飛来する映像は、鑑賞者の視点を邸宅内の隅々まで、それまで目に留めることのなかった場所―天井の幾何学模様、歪んだガラスなどへ鑑賞者を誘う。映像には人物は登場はしないが、作家は「グランドツアーから戻られた朝香宮の頭と心のなかを想いつつ」この作品をつくりあげたと語る。タイトルとなるpilgrimは、日本語では「巡礼者」「放浪者」を意味し、そこには世界中を船で旅して回った邸宅の主である朝香宮鳩彦王の存在が強く刻印されている。過去と現在がシームレスに繋がり、現実と想像が溶け合う本作には、私たちを時空を超えた旅へと誘う魅力がある。This work is a video work that was included in the "Travel and Imagination/Creation" exhibition held at the museum in the fall of 2022. It is a fantastical work that was edited by filming the former Asakamiya residence and collaging the live-action footage with small model airplanes flying overhead. Among the small airplanes, a Bonbonniere propeller plane from the museum's collection appears. The images of several small airplanes flying in and out of the Asakamiya residence invite the viewer to look at every corner of the residence, at the geometric patterns on the ceiling, the distorted glass, and other places he or she had not noticed before. Although no people appear in the video, the artist says that he created this work "thinking of Asakamiya's head and heart after his return from the grand tour. The title "pilgrim" means "pilgrim" or "wanderer" in Japanese, and the presence of King Hatohiko Asakamiya, the owner of the mansion who traveled around the world by boat, is strongly engraved in the title. This work, in which the past and present are seamlessly connected and reality and imagination blend together, has the allure of inviting us on a journey that transcends time and space.
