The smoking room was a room where men enjoyed chatting over cigarettes and cigars after dinner, and like the small dining room on the first floor, it was a Japanese-style room with an alcove and chairs and tables (the smoking room was renovated when the museum opened in 1983). The room was furnished with three small chairs, a chaise longue, and two easy chairs. The furniture was designed by the Ministry of the Imperial Household, but it is thought that the design was based on furniture by French decorative artist Jules Leroux, since the design is very similar to his work. According to the "Asakamiya Residence New Construction Record" drawings, it is known that the furniture was made in Japan when the building was first completed. In 2000, the furniture was restored with a lacquer finish (urethane coating) on the fabric and wood.
