- 作品解説: 地中海に面したフランス南東部のリゾート地、カンヌ。ヤシの木や海岸、そして色鮮やかな人々の往来がはっきりとではないが雰囲気で確認できる。しかし、そういったカンヌの様子は画面下方に追いやられ、空が絵の大半を占めている。しかも空は朱や紫色が使用され、大きな塊が下に向かって滝のように勢いよく降下しており、スコールのようでもある。この楽園のような地で村上は何を感じ取ったのであろうか。本作はドンゴロスのような粗目の布の上に描かれているが、それを生かした形跡がないのがむしろ興味深い。Description: Cannes, a resort town in southeastern France facing the Mediterranean Sea. Palm trees, beaches, and colorful people can be seen in the atmosphere, though not clearly. However, these scenes of Cannes are relegated to the lower part of the image, and the sky dominates the picture. The sky is colored vermilion and purple, and large masses of it are cascading downwards with great force, almost like a squall. What did Murakami perceive in this paradise-like place? This work is painted on a coarse-grained cloth like dongolos, but it is rather interesting that there is no sign of making use of it.
