- 作品解説: 初めてパリを訪れた際の作品。高所からパリを遠望しているのであろう。画面下部の近景には太い水平方向の線や、楕円形の線が右下にあり、柵や人越しに街を眺めている可能性があり、となればエッフェル塔からの眺めであるのかもしれない。岐阜の地元にいた十代後半、カレンダーの絵に採用されていた佐伯祐三の風景画に強い感銘を受けた村上であったが、次々と名作を生み出した佐伯のパリにようやく出会えたその喜びも相当なものであったであろう。少し鮮やかな朱色も点在するが、茶系や深い緑などが大半を占め、歴史的建造物が林立するなかでセンス良く生活しているパリ市民の色彩を的確に表現しているようだ。Description: This work was taken during his first visit to Paris. This is probably a distant view of Paris from a high vantage point. There is a thick horizontal line and an oval line in the lower right corner of the near view at the bottom of the picture, suggesting that the artist may be looking at the city through a fence or people, and if so, the view may be from the Eiffel Tower. In his late teens in his hometown of Gifu, Japan, Murakami was strongly impressed by Yuzo Saeki's landscape paintings used in calendar pictures, and he must have been quite happy to finally encounter Saeki's Paris, which produced a succession of masterpieces. Although there are some bright vermilion colors scattered throughout the painting, the majority of the colors are browns and deep greens, which seem to accurately represent the colors of Parisians living in good taste amidst a forest of historical buildings.
