Artwork description: Murakami sometimes paints views looking out into the distance. It is possible that he simply prefers a bird's-eye view of the entire scene, or that he wants to check the place where he is working from a bird's-eye view, or that he is feeling the need to escape, but this is a mystery. Perhaps it is the city of Tokyo under a sunset sky, or perhaps the entire picture is unified by warm colors, and the distant buildings, strongly illuminated by the sun, are white and hazy. The masses of paint are scattered all over the picture plane, but upon closer inspection, one can see that they are well balanced to create a sense of crispness, and that they also express perspective and the trembling of light. This work is one of the representative works of the artist's early period.
