- 作品解説: 赤褐色の下塗りにさまざまな土の色に近い絵具で塗り込められている。画面の真ん中に比較的明るい長方形が見えるが、建物を正面からとらえたのであろうか。裏面に貼られたラベルから題名を「溜池」としたが、これは東京の首相官邸付近の溜池山王を描いたものであろう。本作は実際の風景の表層的な外観よりも、その場の空気や光の震え、場の雰囲気を重視した絵画にちがいない。Description: The painting is painted in various earth tones over a reddish-brown undercoat. The relatively bright rectangle in the center of the painting may be a front view of the building. The label on the back of the painting gives the title "Tameike," which probably depicts the Tameike Sanno area near the Prime Minister's residence in Tokyo. This painting must have emphasized the atmosphere of the place, the tremor of the light, and the atmosphere of the place, rather than the superficial appearance of the actual landscape.
