- 作品解説: 東京神田にある東京復活大聖堂は、日本に正教会の教えをもたらしたロシア人修道士祭聖ニコライに由来した「ニコライ堂」の名称で親しまれている。画面の上中央にあるかたちのいずれかがニコライ堂のドームなのであろうか。近景にはいくつもの縦方向の筆跡が残っている。それが所狭しと往来する群像のようにも見えるがはっきりとしない。本作では、絵具の一部に乾いた粘土を強引に肉付けしたかのようなかすれた独特の肌合いがみられるが、これらも幻想的な雰囲気を醸し出している。Description: The Tokyo Resurrection Cathedral in Kanda, Tokyo, is known by the name "Nicolai-do," which is derived from the Russian monk St. Nikolai, who brought the teachings of the Orthodox Church to Japan. One of the shapes in the upper center of the image may be the dome of Nikolai-do. In the near view, a number of vertical brushstrokes remain. They appear to be a group of figures moving back and forth, but it is not clear. In this work, some of the paints have a distinctive blurred texture, as if they were made by forcibly applying dry clay, which also creates a fantastical atmosphere.
