- 作品解説: 鴨の図柄は古く中国唐代の文様や日本の正倉院の遺品にも見られる。鴛鴦図とともに夫婦仲の良さを象徴する吉祥画であり池上秀畝が活躍した時代では他の画家の作品も数多くあることから需要がかなりあったことが伺える。敢えて俯瞰した角度で動きのある鴨を精緻に描くところに花鳥画家としての自負が感じられる。Description: The design of ducks can be found in ancient Chinese designs from the Tang Dynasty and in artifacts from the Shosoin Repository in Japan. Along with the mandarin duck, the duck is a symbol of the good relations between husband and wife, and there were many works by other artists in the period when Ikegami Shuho was active, which suggests that there was considerable demand for this work. The artist's pride as a flower-and-bird painter can be seen in his exquisite depiction of the ducks in motion from an overhead angle.
