- 作品解説: 湯河原を流れる新崎川を中心に据えた写生で、右手の道には川を眺めながら歩く人が小さく描かれている。木々の緑で一部黄色を感じさせるところは、前もって黄色を下層に塗り、その上から緑を塗っている。茶色を感じさせるところも同様であろうと考えられ、油絵の技法のような、下塗りを生かして単調にならない画面をつくりだしている。空や川の茶色くなっているところは、以前は塗り残して紙の白を生かしていたであろうと思われるが、現在紙が焼けてしまっている。Description: This sketch focuses on the Shinzaki River flowing through Yugawara, with a small drawing of a person walking along the road on the right, looking at the river. The green of the trees, which gives the impression of yellow in some areas, was painted with yellow as the first layer and then green was painted over it. The same is probably true of the brownish areas, and the artist has created a picture that does not become monotonous by taking advantage of the underpainting, as in the technique of oil painting. The browned areas of the sky and the river were probably left unpainted to make use of the white of the paper, but the paper is now burnt out.
