- 作品解説: 画面右下に日付と曜日が書かれているので、1924年、第5回目の渡欧の時期に描かれたものだと思われる。第一回目の渡欧の時期にあたる1902年も7月24日が木曜日にあたり、三宅は7月22日から8月10日頃までロンドンに滞在していたが、風景の軽妙な捉え方から、本作はこの時期ではなく大正期と考えられる。セントジェームズ公園はバッキンガム宮殿の東側に隣接したロンドン中心部の公園で、三宅は少し高い位置から公園を描いている。左上方に見えるのは宮殿であろう。日本とは異なるイギリスの植生や色彩が意識されている。Description: The date and day of the week are written in the lower right corner of the image, which suggests that this was painted during Miyake's fifth visit to Europe in 1924. In 1902, the year of his first visit to Europe, July 24 also fell on a Thursday, and Miyake stayed in London from July 22 to August 10, but the lightness with which he captured the scenery suggests that this work was painted during the Taisho period (1912-1926), not during this period. St. James's Park is a park in central London adjacent to the east side of Buckingham Palace, and Miyake painted the park from a slightly elevated position. The palace is probably visible in the upper left. The artist is aware of the vegetation and colors of England, which are different from those of Japan.
