- 作品解説: 本作品は、日本人が滅多に訪れることのないフランスの片田舎を写生している。森芳雄は牧歌的な風景を探し、好んで描いたのであろう。淡い緑の草、道の色と親和性のある古い建物の壁と屋根。油絵具の材質に適したフランスの重厚な建物や自然の色を、森芳雄は嬉々としてキャンヴァスに向かっている様子は、筆やペインティングナイフの軽やかなタッチから伺える。空を紫がかった灰色にすることで画面全体が上品で落ち着いた調子に仕上がっている。Description: This work depicts a rural area of France rarely visited by the Japanese. Yoshio Mori must have looked for and preferred pastoral landscapes. The pale green grass, the walls and roofs of old buildings with an affinity for the color of the road. The light touch of the brush and painting knife shows that Yoshio Mori was happy to canvas the stately French buildings and the colors of nature, which are suitable for the material of oil paint. The purplish-gray color of the sky gives the entire picture an elegant and calm tone.
