- 作品解説: 作品の裏書から、3 月の相模湾を描いたことがわかる。何気ない構図だが、柏亭の感性が遺憾なく発揮されている。たとえば、海の水色は塗り重ねを極力少なくして彩度を落とさないように工夫されているところや、穏やかな波の様子を、滑らかな水平方向の筆のタッチで的確に表されているところ。そして遠景の水平線付近の横たわる雲に注目すると、一度明るめのグレーを塗ってから、乾かないうちにペインティングナイフのようなものでその表面を軽くこそぎ落とし地塗りの白色がキャンヴァスの目に沿って見えるように描いていて、この技法によって遠くに位置することが表現できている。Description: The endorsement of this work indicates that it depicts Sagami Bay in March. Although the composition is ordinary, Kashiwatei's sensibility is fully expressed in this work. For example, the light blue of the sea is painted with as few layers of paint as possible so as not to lose saturation, and the gentle waves are accurately expressed with a smooth horizontal brushstroke. The clouds lying near the horizon in the distant view are painted with a lighter gray color, and before it dries, the surface is lightly scraped off with a painting knife so that the white of the base coat appears along the grain of the canvas. This technique allows the painting to express the distant location of the canvas.
