- 作品解説: 左上の款記には、中国元時代の詩人の四大家にも数えられる楊載 （ようさい） による「扇上竹」と題された七言絶句が付されている。种竹何須种萬竿 一枝分影亦檀栾 秋宵更受風披拂 听取清声入梦寒 本図にみられるように、「竹」という、文人画の代表的なモチーフである四君子のひとつを描くことは、翠雲にとって手慣れたものであったのだろう。 南画には、漢詩が添えられていることが多い。描かれた絵は詩の世界のイメージを膨らませ、詩も絵を助ける。さらにこれらの漢字が絵柄の一部となって画面全体を引き締める。絵と文字のコラボレーションで作品ができている、とても強力な芸術表現と言えよう。 江戸時代の中期以降、漢詩文を作ることが知識人の間では必須の教養となった。そして小室翠雲が生まれた明治時代においても漢文を訓読した文体が公用文に用いられていた。この時代の画家の手紙など、私用の文章にも漢文体が残っていた。 さて、この作品の右側にある漢詩は、中国元時代の詩人・楊載 （ようさい） による「扇上竹」と題された七言絶句。竹の陰影は一本でも美しく、秋の夜風に揺られた竹の爽やかな音が夢の中にも響いてくる、という素敵な詩に合わせ、翠雲の描く墨の竹はいろいろな色彩を放っているようだ。Description: The inscription on the upper left is a seven-syllable phrase titled "Fan Shang Zhiku" by Yang Jiao, one of the four great poets of the Yuan dynasty in China. Nanga are often accompanied by Chinese poetry. The painted picture enhances the image of the world of the poem, and the poem also aids the painting. Furthermore, these Chinese characters become part of the pictorial design and tighten the entire screen. It can be said that this is a very powerful form of artistic expression in which the work is the result of a collaboration between the picture and the characters. Since the middle of the Edo period (1603-1867), composing Chinese poetry and writing became an essential culture among intellectuals. And even in the Meiji period (1868-1912), when Suiun Komuro was born, the style of writing based on the Chinese reading of Chinese texts was used for official documents. The Chinese writing style also remained in private writings such as letters by painters of this period. The Chinese poem on the right side of this work is a seven-syllable phrase titled "Fan Shang Jiku" by Yang Jiao, a poet of the Yuan dynasty in China. The shades of a single bamboo are beautiful, and the refreshing sound of bamboo swaying in the autumn night breeze echoes in my dreams.
