- 作品解説: 宇治川の人工島・浮島にある十三重石塔を左手に描きその向こうに宇治橋が見える。ちょうど中澤が本作を描いた年に15.2メートルのこの石塔は国の重要文化財に指定された。鎌倉時代後期に僧・叡尊が宇治橋の改修を手掛けた折この人工島を築き、宇治川で漁撈される魚霊の供養と橋の安全の祈念のため、この大塔婆を造立したとされる。塔の数も正確で、河原の水たまりに映る塔も見逃さずに描いている。Description: The thirteen-story stone pagoda on Ukishima, an artificial island in the Uji River, is depicted on the left, with the Uji Bridge visible beyond. The 15.2-meter stone pagoda was designated a National Important Cultural Property in the same year that Nakazawa painted this work. It is said that in the late Kamakura period (1185-1333), the monk Eison built this artificial island when he renovated the Uji Bridge, and built this large pagoda as a memorial to the spirits of fish caught in the Uji River and as a prayer for the safety of the bridge. The number of pagodas is accurate, and even the reflection of the pagoda in the puddle of water on the riverbank is depicted without missing it.
